A 19-year-old driver was trapped in her vehicle after it went off the road, over a cliff, and down a 70-foot embankment above the Cacapon River near the Maryland-West Virginia state line.
The crash was reported at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Monday in Morgan County, West Virginia.
Troopers were able to extricate the woman from her vehicle and place her on an inflatable raft. She was then floated down the river to a place where she could be safely airlifted from the ravine.
The pilot hovered approximately 130 feet above the area and a trooper was lowered to the woman, who was secured and flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment and evaluation of undisclosed injuries.
Her condition was not available on Thursday.
